As a rare treat we sometimes include Gooseberries in our boxes as an extra item. If you’ve not tried gooseberries before – you should. They’re sweet and juicy. Gooseberries are the size of a large Grape but with a with a more spherical shape. The have been popular all the way back to Elizabethan times. Gooseberries are low in calories; 100 g of fresh berries hold just 44 calories and the berries are an excellent source of vitamin-C. 100 g of fresh berries provide 27.7 μg or 46% of daily-recommended intake values of vitamin C (1)

Gooseberries, whilst available for more months are the best from June through to early August when they are sweet enough to eat raw.
